MEET KERRY

Coach. Business psychologist. Lawyer. Tutor. Business leader. Mentor. Adviser. Which do you need? I have been and can be any or all the above. I like to think of myself as a specialist sounding board. I reap the benefit of some interesting twists and turns in my own career, drawing on more than 30 years’ experience in the Law, Legal Education and Social Services. Many moons ago, I studied Psychology, then qualified as a social worker. At an early age, I saw the sharp end of social work in North Bristol. Then, in Brighton, I learned about resilience, vulnerability, and people’s potential from working with young offenders on alternative to custody programmes. I also saw the impact of a powerful argument in court!

So, I re-trained and practised as a solicitor, working mainly with farmers on agricultural property disputes, before being drawn into education and eventually becoming Course Director of the Legal Practice Course at the University of the West of England. I loved watching people learn and grow in confidence.

Promoting that has become my mission. I moved on to become a Director of the University of Law, heading a dedicated team to build the Bristol branch in its founding stages and see it flourish. In 2015, I returned to Burges Salmon LLP, the law firm where I trained, as Head of Learning and Development and led the transformation of a broad learning curriculum for all fee earners from Trainee to Partner.
